I have doubts about the merits of contriving to keep a group small and intimate, living room size if you will, even though I understand the attraction. In the first Christian church they had large group meetings in a large open area (apparently the south end of the temple complex) and also "small group" meetings in homes. Acts 2:46 46 Day by day continuing with one mind in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, they were taking their meals together with gladness and sincerity of heart, (NASU) Of course that was a LARGE group, and I know that today a common practice of congregations with several hundreds or a few thousands is similar, to have large Sunday morning gatherings and scattered (assigned) small group meetings Sunday evening and/or midweek. The folks we met with in Ghana a few years ago did that, they met in a public park under the trees on Sunday, and had small groups meet in elders homes scattered around the city during the week. I understand they have a building of some kind now for the Sunday gatherings and no longer have the problem of sometimes getting rained out.
