The huge success of the Left Behind book series has promoted the pre-millenial/rapture doctrine more than probably anything since Hal Lindsey's Late Great Planet Earth thirty years ago, especially since it takes the doctrine for granted and most readers don't seem to see it as promoting a view that is contrary to scripture. I've had discussions with a number of people who've read one or more of the books, and who think they're great. There seems to be some real problem sorting out where the fiction ends and the indoctrination begins. If these books got as much heed as the average science fiction or fantasy story, I wouldn't be too concerned, but many believers don't seem to be equipped to sort out the doctrinal problems from a Biblical perspective. It is misleading and potentially harmful, especially for younger Christians. Too many people (Christians) buy the fallacy, "It's just a book" or "It's just a movie" and "I can filter that out." etc. when it comes to entertainment.
