The Left Behind Deception book
Posted by Brenda - August 12, 2001 at 9:03:05am:

I was asked by some fellow believers to read the Left Behind Series so they could see what I thought. My fear is that even though it is classified as a work of fiction many people will still take the overall concept of the rapture (a word not found in the Bible), the tribulation and Christ's earthly reign as fact because of the use of scriptural references used throughout the books. Its a belief system almost totally based on prophetic scriptures and it a belief system that surely everyone would love to adhere to because even though you will have to endure the tribulation, you will get a second chance. That is unless you haven't died at the time of the rapture. Apparently dead people get no second chance. Below are just a few scriptures to ponder:

Acts 1:11 Christ will come in a cloud and all will see him just like when he left

John 5:28 good and wicked will rise from the grave at the same time!

Matt 25:31-51

Matt 24:36-51 (this is used by proponents of the LBS: two in the field, one taken, one left, but in that story of Noah what did it mean to be LEFT BEHIND?!)

Rev 20:4-6 (another LBS reference. This first resurrection was of souls and seems to be the beliefs or teachings that were resurrected rather than bodies.

1 Thess 4:13-18 and 5:1-3 (A core LBS reference: the dead in Christ will rise first. However, the emphasis should be on the word dead, the dead in christians will rise and then christians who are still living. LBS people put the emphasis on the word "Christ" meaning that the dead christians will be raised at a time previous to all the wicked dead. In this chapter paul is telling the thessalonians not to worry about their christian friends and family who have died (don't mourn as some without hope) They will be raised up and then the rest of the christian living will join them. Paul is no where in this section even discussing the wicked probably because he assumed everyone would know what would be happening to them. This LBS interpretation goes completely against the first verse listed John 5:28 which says the good and wicked dead will rise to be judged at the same time.

I pray that christians will not be led astray by this false doctrine being spread in print and movies at this time.

In HIM who will come once to judge all, Marc Hermon
