The immorality and corruption on television and in books -I think will be the destruction of more people because of the casual observance and evil imagination associated with it than anything else in modern life. It vexes my soul like it did Lots but I don't know what to do about it. Advertising is as bad these days as the shows themselves. We are nearly drowned in it. That's why Jesus statement "only the pure in heart will see God" got to me so much. Pure- thats a hard thing to come by in this day and age. Not impossible, but it takes a definate effort.A few threads down there was an interesting dicussion on moraility as it relates to R and PG-13 movies and M rated video games. I would like to go a little deeper on another somewhat related topic.
What about literature? Many books are filthy, filled with sex violence and similar activities. What is the Christians responsibility for SELF CENSORSHIP? (Caps on purpose)
I went through a period in my life where I didn't have a real problem with R rated movies (not boasting, in fact, not proud). I was once chastized by a Christian woman that R rated movies were unacceptable. The catch is that this person regularly read romance novels and not the innocent and clean ones. At the time I saw little difference and I feel the same today.
I pray that as I influence our church youth today and in the future, that I will be able to be positive, honest and consistent.
