The people that were sent out with Solomon to declare the kingship were Zadok the priest Nathan and Benaiah. A Priest, a Prophet and a political leader. The emphasis was on on God not politics. The way it should be. The state was not seperate from the church.
Granted that when the state takes over the church it always perverts it, Jeroboam, and almost every king of Israel since, even some of what Solomon did and his descendants, which it what happens when the state is in charge of the church.
When the state listened to the church, Hezekiah and Isaiah, David and Nathan, Joash and Jehoida, things went well for the people, for the king and for the entire nation.
