2 Tim 4:1-4 1 I solemnly charge {you} in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and the dead, and by His appearing and His kingdom: 2 preach the word; be ready in season {and} out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort, with great patience and instruction. 3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but {wanting} to have their ears tickled, they will accumulate for themselves teachers in accordance to their own desires; 4 and will turn away their ears from the truth, and will turn aside to myths. (NAS)This statement that Paul set forth for Timothy, is to be one of the guiding principles of Christians, of all times. It is a hard thing to hold onto, because what is sound doctrine? or when does the passage in 2 Peter apply, that we are to have nothing to do with unstable, ignorant men supposed to apply? The basis here is to teach this sound doctrine on an individual basis, in season and out of season. We can know what sound doctrine is just by taking a look at the scriptures that we have. God provided us with everything that we have for a reason, and every scripture is useful for teaching us. No one can add to this guidebook (see Rev 22 for an example), and nothing should be taken away. It must be complete as God has ordained. Then we can be certain that we are not those carried away by godless myths, or carried away with endless genealogies.
