God is...

That's right, God is. God exists. At the scene of the burning bush, Moses asked God what His name was. God said to Moses, "I AM WHO I AM. This is what you are to say to the Israelites: `I AM has sent me to you.' (Exodus 3:14, NIV) What a fitting answer to Moses' question! The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob is the God who exists, always has, and always will. This cannot be said of the gods of the Egyptians from the time of Moses. No one worships them today. They were not real gods. They had a beginning and an end. "I am the Alpha and the Omega," says the Lord God, "who is, and who was, and who is to come, the Almighty." (Revelation 1:8)

Some aspects of the nature of God are very difficult for us to understand. We understand a world in which everything happens at a certain place at a certain time. God is not restricted to place and time. The question: "From where did God come?" shows a lack of understanding of the nature of God. It falsely assumes that there was a beginning to God and that that happened sometime in someplace.

Here's a science fiction example that I can understand which helps me to grasp the notion of God not being restricted by time and place: Immagine that you are in an extremely fast spaceship. This spaceship can go infinitely fast. As you approach infinite speed, distance becomes immaterial. You can be everywhere at the same time because it takes no time to go from one place to the next. Time also becomes unimportant for the same reason. Perhaps the nature of God is somewhat like this. I hope this helps.

God is...

1. Timeless. Ps. 90:2-4 2 Before the mountains were born or you brought forth the earth and the world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God. 3 You turn men back to dust, saying, "Return to dust, O sons of men." 4 For a thousand years in your sight are like a day that has just gone by, or like a watch in the night. (NIV)

2. Not contained within nature. 1 Kings 8:27 But will God indeed dwell on earth? Behold, heaven and the heaven of heavens cannot contain You. How much less this temple which I have built. (NKJ)

3. Not excluded from nature. Ps 135:6 The LORD does whatever pleases him, in the heavens and on the earth, in the seas and all their depths. (NIV)

4. Aware of and able to touch all of creation at the same time at all times. Psalm 139:1-18 ...You have searched me and known me...If I ascend into heaven, You are there;...in the uttermost parts of the sea... darkness and light are both alike to You... in Your book [my days] were written when as yet there were none of them... (NKJ)
