Since God cannot be in the company of sin, I think the only people he can "prefer" are those that have followed the instructions that enable them to come into his presence. I have been so touched by the anxious joy he exhibits in the old testament and the eagerness he has to forgive and forget errors of any who come to him and believe in his goodness and constant love and gigantic heart. I think the "preference" he shows to people is the same preference we show to people who are trusted loved ones whom we know we can trust and count on every day. People we have a relationship with, not who just use us when they want or need something then go their own way and forget we exist. We had a discussion class at services recently that brought up a difference of opinion. We are a very close group so the difference of opinion did not cause any negative feelings. However, it is an interesting question.
Did God and/or Christ ever show preference to any one, either a person or a group of persons?
So as not to sway any of you that want to respond, I will not tell you how I answered this question. I will follow with my thoughts after a few have taken a shot at the question
The answer to this question is not a matter of salvation, in my mind, but it does say a lot about ones personal view of God's dealing with mankind.
