It seems obvious that violation of copyright law (for example) doesn't have the same consequences as violation of the law against murder or arson (for example). However... James 2:10 For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles at just one point is guilty of breaking all of it. NIV James is certainly talking about God's law, but there is a principle of respect for law, and the idea of a slippery slope, that need to be remembered. Choosing which laws we obey suggests that we are above the law (James 4:11b When you judge the law, you are not keeping it, but sitting in judgment on it. NIV) It's easy to be careless about obeying laws that are inconvenient or not easily enforced, but where does one stop, and why?
