Old stuff is sometimes surprising

The article linked below refers to the apparent discovery of a Roman bath house from first century Nazareth, the town where Jesus grew up. From an archaeological perspective, that is quite surprising, and offers a very different perception of the Nazareth of Jesus' time than the standard idea, reinforced in recent years, that Nazareth was an insignificant farming village of only a few hundred people. If there was a Roman outpost and settlement at Nazareth in Jesus' time, Nathanael's outburst about the town of Jesus youth might be clarified somewhat (John 1:46), as well as the rationale of Jesus being widely called a Nazarene. References which fit well with Nazareth being somewhat more significant and widely known (if not admired) than has been widely thought in scholarly circles in recent years.
